Shifting Perspectives in Lex Barberio’s Ambisextrous Series

Softmotion collaborated with artist Lex Barberio to transform their Ambisextrous portrait series into a fine art installation using lenticular printing. The result was a set of interactive, multidimensional portraits that shift as viewers move, bringing themes of gender and identity to life in a way traditional formats can’t match.

Portrait of a person with long, wavy hair posing with hands near their face, illuminated by vibrant pink and blue lighting, displayed in a black-framed photo on a gradient gray wall.

Lex Barberio is a queer artist from Miami whose work merges portrait photography, collage, and experimental printing techniques. For Ambisextrous, Lex sought to challenge perceptions of gender expression through visual storytelling. By incorporating Softmotion’s lenticular art expertise, each portrait becomes an evolving narrative—changing perspective as the viewer moves and revealing layers of personality, expression, and truth.

A portrait of a woman with short dark hair, overlaid with transparent, colorful hands touching her face from above and below, creating a layered, surreal effect against a light gray background.

The installation combined lenticular portraits with precise production techniques, ensuring that the shifting visuals were crystal-clear from multiple vantage points. This fine art installation exemplifies how lenticular printing can elevate gallery work, making it more immersive, interactive, and emotionally resonant.

From gallery walls to public art, projects like Ambisextrous demonstrate the unique ability of Softmotion lenticular to transform static images into contemporary art installations that connect with audiences on a deeper level.
