Light in Motion at Dulles International Airport
Softmotion collaborated with artist Mikyoung Kim to create a large-scale lenticular flip installation for Dulles International Airport. The work animates the transformation of light across seasons and time, offering travelers a moment of reflection within one of the country’s busiest transit hubs.

The installation explores how global and local time shape our perception of place. Through the lenticular flip effect, images transition between seasonal changes in Virginia’s hardwood forests and satellite views of the earth as it orbits the sun. These shifting compositions reveal a dialogue between natural cycles and the rhythms of international travel.
Softmotion’s lenticular production allowed Kim’s concept to unfold across a series of large-format panels, each calibrated for clarity, depth, and seamless visual flow. As travelers move through the corridor, the artwork animates gradually, encouraging both brisk movement and lingering moments of discovery.
In an environment defined by motion, the installation offers a quiet counterpoint that grounds the viewer in shifting light, landscape, and time. It demonstrates how architectural lenticular design can elevate public spaces through interaction and visual storytelling.
